1. Educational purpose only
This site provides general information and arithmetic about the Federal Employees' Group Life Insurance (FEGLI) program and about published private term life insurance averages. It is for educational purposes only. It is not financial, insurance, legal or tax advice, it does not consider your individual circumstances, and it is not a recommendation to keep, change, reduce, replace or cancel any coverage. Decisions about your benefits are yours and should be made with your payroll or benefits office, OPM, and, if you wish, a professional of your choosing.
2. No affiliation with the U.S. government
This site is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated on behalf of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, the FEGLI program, the Office of Federal Employees' Group Life Insurance, MetLife or any federal agency. Figures produced here are not official determinations of your coverage or premiums; the amounts actually withheld from your pay or annuity are determined by your agency, your payroll office and OPM.
3. Not an insurance broker
We are not a licensed insurance broker, agent or producer, and nothing on this site sells, solicits or negotiates insurance. Private term life figures are market estimates drawn from published averages; they are not quotes, offers or indications of eligibility. Any insurance you obtain from a third party is governed solely by your agreement with that third party.
4. Accuracy and changes
We work to keep the rate tables current with OPM's published rates and to match OPM's own calculator, and the methodology page states the effective date in use. Rates, rules and the calculator itself may change at any time without notice, and the site may contain errors. The site is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
5. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator of this site will not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential or other loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, the site or its output, including any decision about insurance coverage. Your sole remedy for dissatisfaction with the site is to stop using it.
6. Affiliate links
Some links to third-party providers are affiliate links from which we may earn a commission. They are disclosed on the affiliate disclosure page. We are not responsible for the products, services, content or practices of any third party.
7. Acceptable use
You may use the site for lawful personal and informational purposes. You may not attempt to disrupt the site, scrape it at a scale that burdens it, or present its output as an official government document.
8. Intellectual property
The site's text, design and code are the property of the site operator unless otherwise noted. OPM documents referenced here are U.S. government works. You may quote the site's output for personal use with attribution.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state in which the site operator is domiciled, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remainder stays in effect.
10. Changes to these terms
Updated terms will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
