About

An independent calculator for one question federal employees and annuitants keep asking: what does FEGLI actually cost me over time?

Why this exists

OPM's own FEGLI calculator reports what you pay this year, and a separate report for the year you retire. What it does not show is the shape in between: Option B premiums step up with every five-year age band, and for anyone who keeps coverage at No Reduction they keep stepping up for life. People find that out one pay stub at a time. This site puts the whole curve on one chart, from your current age to 80, next to a neutral market estimate for private term coverage, so the trade-off is visible before a decision has to be made.

What this site is and is not

How the numbers are kept honest

Every rate is entered from the OPM rate letter in force and checked line by line against OPM's calculator; the methodology page publishes the tables, the rules and the assumptions. When a number here disagrees with your payroll office or OPM, they are right and we would like to know.

How the site is funded

The calculator is free and will stay free. The site may earn a referral commission when a visitor follows a labelled link to a private insurance provider and later buys a policy. Commissions never change a figure on this site: the FEGLI numbers come from OPM's rate table and the term estimates come from published averages, neither of which a partner can influence.

Corrections

A contact address will be published here once the site moves to its permanent domain. Until then, corrections can be submitted through the channel listed on the affiliate disclosure page when a partner program is active.
